I’m writing this with an excited and nervous heart: to share about the beginning of a new chapter for Raise. Today, that mission is complete, and Raise is winding down to make way for a new evolution.

What’s happening?

Every day for 7 years, our team shipped equity software for Africa daily, that’s 1,759 working days of some of the smartest engineers, designers, delivery teams and sales people contributing their time and effort to make Raise work.

We survived the biggest dips in African venture and the zero-interest funding boom - and somehow, kept shipping software that reached thousands of startups across Africa, hundreds of funds and over 18 countries across the continent.

All held by one simple mission: healthy capital markets in Africa are key to financial independence. And healthy equity markets need phenomenal equity & debt software.

We shared that vision with many team members and investors over the years, and perhaps so - most with the Carta team when they invested in Raise and we became known as the ‘Carta for Africa’.

Today, that mission takes a huge evolution, where I’ll be joining Carta full-time to accelerate product expansion for Carta’s growth markets across Asia, Middle East, and now, Africa. There, I’ll be integrating our learnings & countless pivots from Raise, directly into Carta’s product and go-to-market machine.

As part of this transition, Raise’s mission is complete, and Raise customers will be able to migrate over to Carta.

Carta and Raise

Equity markets are changing really fast, there’s more retail capital, private equity is growing as an asset class and real-world assets are becoming a dominant trend. So as these markets evolve, questions naturally come up.

The answers to those questions emerged through working with Carta. For over a decade, they’ve built the best tools for funds, companies and employees of all sizes, and I’ve always shared a clear alignment with Henry on the vision for creating equity for all.

Africa is about to get better equity, fund administration, and corporate tools that will continue to evolve our venture and private capital ecosystem, and those tools will be directly connected to other capital markets across Asia, Europe, the Middle East and the Americas through this new role.
